I’m not a glass half-full type of gal. I’m never really sure which is even supposed to be the positive expression (half full or half empty—aren’t there positive and negative connotations in both sayings??).  I always say I’m a realist—neither Pollyanna nor Eeyore.

But no matter your outlook, I think we can agree: 2020 has been a rough year. It’s been hard on everyone and disastrous for many.

Some thoughts on homeschooling for perplexed parents in a pandemic

I started writing this blog post and discovered that I had much more to say than even weird homeschool types would like to read in one sitting, so I’ve divided it into a two-parter. In this one, I’ll cover 1) the difference in doing school at home and actually homeschooling, 2) freedoms afforded to homeschoolers, 3) the importance of treasuring those freedoms, 4) the fact that it’s NOT easy…and 5) after 14 years, I still believe it’s worth it.

The End of the World as We Know It?

A little over four weeks into staying at home for the greater good of stemming the spread of COVID-19, some of us may find ourselves wondering if this is one of those times that the world irreversibly changes. The wisdom of Solomon tells us there is nothing new under the sun…  and that is certainly true. In fact, the older I get and the more I learn about many of the horrors of history, that truth is continually reinforced. History does periodically repeat itself, so in that sense, what’s new to us is not something new “under the sun.”
